Day 4 of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s (PA) Session – 31 May – will begin with a group photo session of the Standing Committee members. Meetings of the Standing Committee and the NATO–Russia parliamentary committee are also scheduled for this morning. The Standing Committee is composed of 28 heads of national delegations from NATO member states, the President and the Vice Presidents of the Parliamentary Assembly, and the heads of five Parliamentary Assembly’s committees.

The meeting of the Standing Committee will be followed by the NATO–Russia Parliamentary Committee Meeting. After the meeting, members of this committee will meet with representatives of the mass media.

At noon on Jēkaba Square in Riga, a flowerbed with the logo of the NATO PA Riga Session will be dedicated to the inhabitants of Riga as a symbolic reminder of the parliamentarians’ meeting in Riga. The attendees will be addressed by Mr. Gundars Daudze, Chairman of the Saeima, and Mr. John Tanner, President of the NATO PA.

Afterwards the participants of the NATO PA Riga Session will have an opportunity to learn more about Latvia’s history and cultural traditions by participating in excursions to historical and cultural sites. They will be able to choose one of the following four tours: the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum; Rundāle Palace and Bauska Castle; picturesque sights in Sigulda and Turaida; nature trails or the underground bunker in Līgatne, which is a relic from the Soviet era.

While the parliamentarians go on excursions, the premises at the Kipsala International Exhibition centre will be rearranged for the next day’s plenary sitting, which is the key event of each Session.
