At 9:00 this morning temporary border control was reimposed on the borders of Latvia with Schengen Area countries. Border guards carry out minimal security checks of all people entering Latvia.

No cars have lined up in queues to enter Latvia from Estonia or Lithuania.

Officers of the immigration units of the State Border Guard have intensified monitoring of the areas close to Latvian borders with Estonia and Lithuania.

As we have already informed, from 9:00 24 May 2010 until 18:00 1 June 2010 in order to prevent any disturbances during the NATO PA Spring Session, border control was reimposed in Latvia on ten highways (on three highways crossing the border of Latvia and Estonia, as well as on seven highways crossing the border of Latvia and Lithuania), on ferry lines at the Port of Riga, and on air traffic from the Schengen Area at Riga International Airport.
